Further user studies into e-books
Following on from the SuperBook Project jointly run by University College London, University of Wales Aberystwyth and Information Automation Limited, the JISC has granted UCL funding for an e-Book Observatory. The announcement on the UCL Centre for Publishing website reads:
The CIBER research group have been awarded £170,000 by JISC for an 18 month log analysis project. The ‘National e-books observatory’ will study the use of core reading materials in e-book form at 120 UK universities. Those participating will be offered free access to Psychology, Business Studies, Materials Science, Medicine and Media Studies titles from a variety of publishers for 12 months from January 2008.Information Automation Limited is responsible for the qualitative element of the Observatory research, just as it is for SuperBook. The UCL team continues with deep log analysis of the e-book collections that the JISC has put in place in a number of universities around the UK.
