I am the owner and managing director of Information Automation Limited (IAL), a company that specialises in research, consultancy and training for the information profession. We are particularly interested in all forms of electronic information resources (e-journals, e-books, etc) and I teach a course in electronic publishing at the Department of Information Studies in Aberystwyth. Drilling down still further(!), my interests centre on the quality and evaluation of electronic information, and in the thinking that underpins activities in library and information science.

    IWR on e-Books

A slightly negative piece on 'patchy provision' and use of e-books and a longer piece by Mark Chillingworth on e-book readers - specifically reviewing the iRex iLiad - in this month's Information World Review. Both interesting articles which demonstrate both user (and librarian) perceptions of e-books and the potential that they offer. It is also clear that more promotion is required in most institutions - in the first article Monica Landoni (Strathclyde University) was quoted as explaining, "We discovered a lack of common understanding about what e-books were, [and] what their advantages over paper books (if any) were".

References to these articles and other new writings on ebooks can be found in IAL's Writings about e-book publishing, 2007 at
