I am the owner and managing director of Information Automation Limited (IAL), a company that specialises in research, consultancy and training for the information profession. We are particularly interested in all forms of electronic information resources (e-journals, e-books, etc) and I teach a course in electronic publishing at the Department of Information Studies in Aberystwyth. Drilling down still further(!), my interests centre on the quality and evaluation of electronic information, and in the thinking that underpins activities in library and information science.

CILIP Governance Implementation Group: Draft Charter and Bye-laws

Following some hard work on the part of the CILIP lawyers and Guy Daines (not to mention the GiG!), draft versions of both the Royal Charter and the CILIP Bye-laws have been developed to reflect the new governance structure endorsed by Council in December 2006. These may now be found at: governanceimplementation.htm

As is shown in the Timeline of Governance Events, these must now be approved by Council before being sent to the Privy Council for approval. In order to gain that approval in 2007, thus enabling the new governance to become effective on 1st January 2008, these documents will need to be sent to the Privy Council before the end of April 2007.

If you wish to compare the proposed new versions with the current Royal Charter and Bye-laws you can access these as follows:

In the CILIP Year Book (use a recent edition, 2006-2007 or 2005-2006),

or on the CILIP website at:
