I am the owner and managing director of Information Automation Limited (IAL), a company that specialises in research, consultancy and training for the information profession. We are particularly interested in all forms of electronic information resources (e-journals, e-books, etc) and I teach a course in electronic publishing at the Department of Information Studies in Aberystwyth. Drilling down still further(!), my interests centre on the quality and evaluation of electronic information, and in the thinking that underpins activities in library and information science.

    Training in e-books

Information Automation is about to begin a round of workshops and seminars on the management of e-resources and e-book collections in libraries. To begin with we are providing a days training in Tower Hamlets for the Schools Library Service - it will introduce a range of e-resources that can be utilised in schools and go on to discuss the issues surrounding the management of collections of e-resources.
The London Book Fair takes place between Sunday 5th March and Tuesday 7th March at ExCel in Docklands; we shall be offering a session for UKeiG - a short introduction to e-books in libraries in the e-Content Pavilion at 10:00 on Monday. A highlight of the the session will be one of the first demonstrations of iRex Technologies' Iliad e-book reader. The Iliad uses e-ink to provide a high-quality display, can hold up to 200 books and newspapers as well as personal documents in a unit the size of a paper-back book.
