I am the owner and managing director of Information Automation Limited (IAL), a company that specialises in research, consultancy and training for the information profession. We are particularly interested in all forms of electronic information resources (e-journals, e-books, etc) and I teach a course in electronic publishing at the Department of Information Studies in Aberystwyth. Drilling down still further(!), my interests centre on the quality and evaluation of electronic information, and in the thinking that underpins activities in library and information science.

    New e-Book readers

Last year saw the Sony Librie - something of a disappointment as it was only available in Japan and was limited to a new, proprietary software - thus reducing the amount of e-books that could be read. Just before the end of 2005, iRex announced the Iliad eInk-based reader. Almost immediately Sony announced a new product - The Reader - a US-based version of the Librie with capability to read some other formats. A first comparison of the two readers is now available.
