I am the owner and managing director of Information Automation Limited (IAL), a company that specialises in research, consultancy and training for the information profession. We are particularly interested in all forms of electronic information resources (e-journals, e-books, etc) and I teach a course in electronic publishing at the Department of Information Studies in Aberystwyth. Drilling down still further(!), my interests centre on the quality and evaluation of electronic information, and in the thinking that underpins activities in library and information science.

    Book 2.0 : Web 2.0 : Publish 2.0?

In his most recent contribution to the EPS Google debate, David Worlock draws a comparison between the community driven bookshop MybookYourbook and the community driven Web 2.0 - noting that the former may be more of a problem to the publishing industry than digitization projects such as Google Book Search. Kate Worlock - at Online Information 2005 - suggested that Googlezon was more of a threat to librarians than to publishers, indeed, as I have suggested here, it has potential for publishers. So far as I can see, search engines may be robbing libraries of some of their mystery - the power to provide information - but when it comes to "Publish 2.0" all they are doing is adding value.
